Mora Piya

Bollywood has always been marked by its music, most of our movies are musicals, and this long standing tradition has given us some of our finest music, bringing together the best of composers and lyricists.
Some of the best hindi songs are actually the finest of poetry lifted by music.
It's a shame that many who wish to explore and understand Bollywood miss out on the
essence of the songs that accompany the motion picture

So for those who don't understand Hindi, here is my first translation.
From the movie Rajneeti,directed by Prakash Jha ;
The song is a lament, a woman pines for her lover who doesn't
seem to want her anymore.

Mora Piya--My lover
Mora piya moe se bolat naahin
Mora piya moe se bolat naahin
Dwar jiye ke kholat naahinnn
Mora piya moe se bolat naahin
Mora piya moe se bolat naahin..

My lover isn't speaking to me,
He's closed the doors to his heart,
he isn't opening them to me,
My lover isn't speaking to me ...

Darpan dekhun, roop niharun
dekhun, roop niharun
Aur sola shringaar karun
Phir nazariya baitha bairi
Kaise ankhiyan chaar karoon
Koi jatan ab kaam na aave
Uss kach sohat naahin
Mora piya moe se bolat naahin
Mora piya moe se bolat naahin

I spend hours before my mirror,
making up my face, making me beautiful.
He still sits at a distance, his face averted..
how do I make contact with his eyes..he doesn't respond to anything I do anymore...
My lover isn't speaking to me...

Hamari ek, muskaan pe woh toh
Haan hamari ek muskaan pe woh toh apni jaan lutaata tha
Jag bisra ki aanthon pehariya, more hi gun gata tha
Baagai kaaa
Bhagai ka koyi sautan ho ke mora kuch baawat naahin
Mora piya muh se bolat naahin

Once upon a time, he would do anything to see me smile
would lay his life down for one smile...
All his waking hours , he'd speak only of me

What now? Have you found another ?
Are you enticed by her?

Nothing I do entices you anymore...
My lover won't speak to me anymore.
